Stephanie Certeza, LCSW-C
LICENCED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER
Stephanie Certeza, LCSW-C, spent 10 years in the field of mental health before joining the Heartwood Psychology team in 2022. Her skills were honed in a variety of mental health settings including: a therapeutic nonpublic school, public and private schools, inpatient psychiatric settings, and therapeutic foster care.
Drawn to working on complex cases, Stephanie is a sensitive clinician who understands the layers of an individual’s uniqueness and emotional/behavioral complexity. Her experiences have afforded her comfort and skill working with children, adolescents, and young adults demonstrating symptoms associated with: autism, anxiety, mood disorders, oppositional defiance, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, medical illnesses, chronic pain, gender identity/sexuality issues, and trauma. She is especially receptive to the needs of those who have been misunderstood by physicians or within their school settings due to challenging interactions between health and mental health symptoms.
Her previous employment has made her adept in the coordination of care across systems, and in advocating for specialized support within the school environment. Stephanie sees herself as a creative and flexible clinician who is committed to creating personalized treatments for the individuals on her caseload. Teaching skills that allow people to thrive rather than living in a survival mode, is one of the most rewarding elements of her career. Her work infuses CBT, DBT, psychodynamic techniques, mindfulness strategies, and expressive arts interventions. She is detail-oriented and good-humored, and knows how to balance positive reinforcement with limits, and she loves to help families learn to do the same.
